Leading the news this morning;

Immigration Minister Chris Bowen says unaccompanied children will be sent to Malaysia as part of that asylum seeker deal being negotiated with the country. Malaysia is playing hardball in the negotiations. A draft document obtained by the ABC’s Lateline programme makes no reference to human rights and shows that Malaysia wants a veto over the 800 people that will be sent to them.

The fighting in the Yemeni capital Sanaa is getting worse. Thousands of tribal fighters are reportedly trying to force their way through government lines as they made their way towards the city. Residents are fleeing the violence and the city’s airport has now been closed.

The former Bosnian Serb army commander Ratko Mladic has been taken to a prison hospital at The Hague. His court-appointed lawyer says his health has deteriorated because of long years of neglect. But Mladic is mentally capable and responsive. Mladic is due to front the war crimes tribunal for the first time later today.

The former governor of Massachusetts, Mitt Romney, has announced that he’ll stand as a candidate for the Republican presidential nomination. He’s signalled his campaign will focus on the economy. Mr Romney was an early front-runner back for the 2010 nomination, the one that eventually went to John McCain.
